Why Were You Created?
So why did God create you? Are we like a
colony of little ants in a child’s plastic ant farm, running
around working day and night while the owner sits by and watches
us struggle to build one more tunnel and one more cave?
No.
You and I were created for just one purpose…
to glorify God. We aren’t here for His entertainment; we are
here for His adoration.
Our GPS shows us a map with roads going off
in every direction. To the untrained eye they look confusing and
random. But there is a solid purple line that shows us the
correct road to reach our destination in the most timely and
shortest route. When we deviate, it tells us to “turn here, and
then there, and return to the optimal route to your
destination.”
God designed a unique road for each one of
us. He drew a thick purple line. It’s called “The Ultimate Will
of God.” But we all miss the turns sometimes. Fortunately what
we usually see as a mistake, God sees as an opportunity; those
are the times we cry out to Him. He is honored and glorified
(which is our purpose) every time we call His name.
If you only heard from your children when
they were in trouble, why would you prevent them from
experiencing trouble?
Life teaches us that
love is the only behavior that really honors and glorifies God.
He sent his Son in human form to teach love. Everything Jesus
said and did was about how to love and when to love and who to
love. There was no other lesson.
John Chapter 3 explains our purpose and where
Jesus fits into our itinerary:
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one
and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed;
by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.
“God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to
point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He
came to help, to put the world right again.
“Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to
trust him has long since been under the death sentence without
knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe
in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.”
If we are to fulfill our reason for being
alive, we will honor God by loving Him, loving His Son, loving
others, and loving ourselves in a healthy way. If we don’t learn
how to do that, we will live our entire lifetime without
accomplishing the purpose for which we were created.
How does salvation fit? When you committed
yourself to Jesus and made him Lord of your life you assured
your destination. Salvation cannot be tarnished and cannot be
lost. But you still have the ability to choose how you
live your life.
It is kind of like marriage. You have a
ceremony, sign a license, and have a grand party to celebrate.
But you still have a choice as to whether you want to honor your
vows. You can run around with the same friends engaging in
activities, flirtations, and trash-talk about your spouse. God
won’t stop you. But it doesn’t change the fact that you are
married.
Whether it is your wedding vows or your
salvation, to live outside your purpose for having been created
would be an incredible waste. You were created to honor God and
glorify Him in every area and moment of your life.
